Do you Like Dessert? I Have a Little Secret...

I’m a healthy eater, but I still have a sweet tooth. I don’t believe in depriving myself, so when I indulge I like to keep it mindful and simple—I mean, really simple.

The truth is, I have a little secret: I love reading recipes for healthy desserts and tarts, but after a long day of cooking I have no patience for actually making them. That said, I’m not interested in packaged treats, either. I find that my sweet spot lies somewhere in the middle. That’s what moderation is all about, right?

Sometimes I nosh on a handful of Enjoy Life or Equal Exchange semi-sweet chocolate chips, and other times I get a little more creative. Since I like to avoid gluten, dairy, and soy, I opt for whole-food ingredients, like raw cacao powder, sunflower butter, and frozen bananas.

You’d be amazed at how delicious and satisfying real, simple desserts can be. Even my husband, who doesn’t have any food allergies, prefers my healthy alternatives more than traditional or store-bought varieties.

Have a craving? Below, you’ll find 3 of my favorite recipes—more like guidelines—for the most decadent guilt-free, no-bake desserts.

Give them a try and let me know what you think in the comments below. Or, share a picture on Facebook.

3 Guilt-Free, No-Bake Desserts
  1. Brownie Batter: In a bowl, mix 1-2 Tbsp. of tahini or sunflower butter, 1-2 Tbsp. of maple syrup or agave, and 1-2 Tbsp. raw cacao powder. Stir in a dash of salt or cinnamon, if desired. Enjoy raw, or pop in the microwave for a few seconds to warm it. You can even add some chocolate chips and heat until just melted. Eat right off the spoon!
  2. Banana Ice Cream: Place 1-2 frozen bananas (slice and freeze on a baking sheet in advance) in a food processor. Process until smooth and creamy. Top with cacao nibs, chocolate chips, or fresh berries, if desired.
  3. Frozen Pomegranate Kernels: Place fresh pomegranate kernels in the freezer. When frozen, enjoy spoonfuls right out of the bowl. It really doesn’t get easier.
